3 certainly was the magic number on Tuesday for Michael O'Neill (10) playing in the Open Meal Deal. Michael carded no less than four of them in his first nine holes, beginning with a great birdie 3 at the par four 2nd hole. A welcome par 3 at the third was followed by an uncharacteristic blemish on the 4th but Michael redeemed himself with a bounceback birdie 3 on the 5th. Bogies at five and six came next and then another 3 at the par three 8th. He closed out his nine with a solid par at the 9th and 20 points on his card. The back nine opened with a par but a few loose shots contributed to a double at 11 and a bogie at the 12th. Michael got back on track, parring the next two holes but let another shot slip at the tricky 15th. A sweet wedge into 16 reaped another birdie and although 17 took that stroke back again, one more par at the 18th gave Michael 19 points on the back nine and 39 points in total. Runner up and playing very consistently at the minute was, Con Ferry (8) returning 38 points for 2nd on the break of tie from John Meehan (11) also on 38 points. Results 1st Michael O'Neill (10) 39pts 2nd Con Ferry (8) 38pts b.o.t 3rd John Meehan (11) 38pts C.S.S 69

Two birdies in his closing four holes gave Total Golf's, Gary McLaughlin (11) 40 points and a three stroke win in Sunday's Confined Stableford competition. Gary started with a double bogie 6 at the North West's opening hole and carded a further three bogies on his front nine leaving him at +5 for the day. A tap in par at the 10th was followed by careless dropped shots at the next 4 holes putting him at +9 and in need of a few good holes. Par on 15 and an 8 foot putt converted for birdie on 16th improved the situation and after a two putt par on 17, Gary birdied the last for 77 strokes and 40 points. Runner up, Andy McDermott (18) got off to a poor start also by blanking the first two holes. He rallied superbly though posting a further 37 points on his remaining 16 holes for 2nd place. The Gross was won by Eddie John Grant (12) with 83 strokes on countback and 3rd place went to Harry Coyle (15) with 35 points. Results 1st Gary McLaughlin (11) 40pts 2nd Andy McDermott (18) 37pts Gross Eddie John Grant (12) 83 b.o.t 3rd Harry Coyle (15) 35pts C.S.S 69

NWCG club played their first North West League match of the season tonight against City of Derry Golf Club. With some handy players on both sides this was always going to go down to the wire. Unfortunately it was City of Derry Golf club who took the larger share of the points on this occasion with the final result being C.O.D 4 NWCG 3. A large number of players have put their hand up to represent the club in this years league and the Vice Captain, Donal Dunn, would like to thank all of those who have put their names forward. There is still a shortage of low handicappers on the panel and any low men looking to get involved shout contact either Donal or Gary in the shop. Next up is Red Castle with the match to be arranged for either Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Saturday at the North West presented the Members with an opportunity to win popular, club Captain, Sean McLaughlin's prize and a packed timesheet was testament to this. The proceedings got under way at 6.32 am as the first fourball made their way down the sun baked 1st fairway, led by Sean's regular playing partners of Kieran Toner, Cathal Begley, Karol Friel and making up the foursome was Michael McLaughlin Jnr. With tee times stretching into late afternoon it was a busy day at the club for all involved and the weather played it's part too, the morning starters enjoying the calmer side of the draw as winds increased as the day wore on. The winning score came from Declan McGowan (19) who posted a personal best round of 44 points to win his first 'Major' at the club. Declan carded 21 points on his front nine and returned a superb 23 on the back nine to coast home with three shots to spare. He also enjoyed a major cut in his handicap, now playing off 16 and if he maintains this form could reduce it even further. Runner up on 41 points was Michael Kelly (10) who has adapted very successfully to links golf and continues to impress with his consistency. The Gross prize went to Luke Bradley (3) with 74 strokes. North West Vice Captain, Donal Dunn (19) carded a solid 40 points for 3rd while Ray Gallagher Jnr (19) returned 39 points for 4th. 38 points secured 5th place for Marcus Roulston (15) while Delwyn Montgomery (11) also carded 38 for 6th.
