Results week ending 16/08/2020

Another great turn out for the Tuesday Open this week , with the weather possibly being too hot?? We wouldn't be ones to complain about a bit of good weather now, would we?


76 played but only one prevailed and that was Sean McGrellis shooting a whopping 45 pts to win by three. In second we had Gerard Doherty visiting from Faughan Valley and its probably fair to say he really enjoyed his time on the links coming in with another monster score of 42 pts.

The gross prize was one by Mark O'Flynn, Visiting all the way from Kanturk Golf Club in Cork, recording a fantastic 74 shots on his way to 41 points.


Colm McCarroll has been in sensational form of late going low once again to record 41 pts to take third.

Visitors prize went to Peador McGrellis with 38 pts, while the very steady Michael Bradley picks up yet another prize with 21 pts on the back nine.

On Wednesday 12th the ladies of North West played for Mr Captain Paul O’Hea’s prize. Once again there was another great turnout for this the “first Major” of the year and while there was a strong breeze at times the sun also made an appearance.


The Captain gave each lady a lovely goodie bag on their arrival at the Pro Shop and then the competition began for this coveted prize.


The best score and winner of Paul O’Hea Captain’s Prize to Ladies was Ann O’Neill playing of 23 with 38 points. Second place was the inform Noreen Allen-Moore playing of 16 with 35 points and third was Margaret Fisher playing of 31 with 34 point on a break of tie.

The nines were won by Shirley McConalogue 22 points (front 9) and Roisin Williamson 18 points (back 9).

Beginners prize went to Donna Tedstone. Nearest the pin was won by Deirdre Britton. Congratulations to all the winners!


The weather has been good to us this week and this was again reflected in in the scoring in the Links Open on Thursday. Winning on a Break of Tie was the gregarious Pat Mackey with 40points beating out John McGonigle.


Stewart McGinlay continues his great run in form with a round of 73 to take the gross prize while Gerry Gallagher took home 3rd prize with 39 points. Visitors Prize went to Shane Heaney and Paul Gallagher picks up the back nine prize with 21 points scored.

Fantastic weather for the Columba Quigley Memorial Cup with a great turn out to boot.

First up we have the ladies results kindly sponsored by the Quigley family, with a very familiar name at the top again. Noreen Allen took top spot with another solid round recording 32 points on her way to victory. Second place was taken by Geraldine Hillick on a break of tie from Una Grant, while Agnes McLaughlin put in a steady performance on the back nine to take the back nine prize. The visitors prize went to Agnes Mc Laughlin from Foyle on 28 points.

In the men's comp kindly sponsored by Crana College, scoring was tight at the top with Darren Kelly winning by one point on a remarkable score of 42 points. Justin MacLochlain's fine form continued as he took second place on a break of tie over Paul Craig, both finishing on 41 points. Round of the day and the gross prize goes to Kyle McCarron with a level par 70. Shane Dillon from Buncrana Golf Club scored well to take the visitors prize with 36 points while the very merry Gerry Coyle put in a great second half to win the back nine prize on 22 points.

Special mention to Mr Treasurer, Eugene Hillick, who recorded a hole in one on the 16th. His playing partners have advised that it was the best driver he hit all day! Only joking Eugene. Congratulations on your hole in one.

On Sunday we had the final of the Debonair Doubles sponsored by Supervalu Buncrana. The final saw the experienced pairing of Brian Grant and Paul O'Hea, drawn against newcomers to the competition Nial and Patrick Boyle. The Boyle boys gave a good representation of themselves but its was not to be as experience prevailed with the House Convener and the Captain winning on the last hole. Congratulations to this years Debonair Doubles winners.


For the rest of the field we had a fourball rumble with 13 teams taking part. Scoring was high in this won with the two teams getting into the prizes coming in on 90 points each. Winning on a break of tie we had Sean McLaughlin, Karol Friel, Cathal Begley and Gerry McFarland while in second place, we had Kevin O'Donnell, Trevor Henderson, John McDermott and Neil Harkin.

Sunday also see our Donegal league team record a fantastic 4-1 win over Portsalon winning all three home matches and 1 match away. A great result against great opposition.
