Results week ending 09/08/2020
354 competitors descended on NWGC last weekend with 106 taking up the challenge for the final day of the bank holiday open weekend, with the final event kindly sponsored by Bradley's Filling Station, Fahan. With the weather holding and the course in great condition both the gents and ladies produced some great golf to match.
In the ladies comp it was Lady Captain Anne Coyle who came out victorious with a one point win and a score of 34 points. In second place, getting her name in the prizes again was the in from Vice Captain Noreen Allen-Moore with 33 points. Roisin Timoney rounded out the main prizes with a steady round of 32 points while, Margaret McColgan from our nearest neighbour club, Buncrana Golf Club, took home the visitors prize with 31 points. A fantastic showing from all the ladies involved in the ladies competition.
Special mention to Trustee Augusta Neff who had a Hole in one at the 16th. What a fantastic achievement Augusta.

It was tight at the top in the gents competition with Stewart McGinlay, a man never too far from the winners enclosure producing the round of the day to win by a point on a score of 42 points. Pipped at the post we had Kevin Hegarty recording 9 pars on the way to a score of 41 points. Ryan Doherty took the gross with a two over round of 72, great shooting, while Michael Kearney rounded out the main prizes with 39 points for third place.
The visitors prize was won by John Kennedy, playing out of Ballyliffin with 37points. Not to shabby on an unfamiliar track. And last but not least was the effervescent Brian O'Sullivan who recorded 22 points on the way home to win the back nine prize.

Despite the rain on Tuesday Twelve hearty souls still braved the conditions to compete for the Tuesday open. Only one prize in this one which went to visitor Jonathan Goodswen with 28 points.
Donegal Shield Qualifier results- Noreen wins again!
The Donegal Shield Qualifier was played on Wednesday 5th August and again there was another great turnout of ladies for the competition.
The winner was the very consistent Noreen Allen-Moore playing off 16 with a good score of 35 points on a break of tie from new member Paula MCGrory (22 handicap) and third place Sheila Ried playing of 21 also with 35 points.
Fourth place went to Joanne Harkin playing of 6 with 34 points.
The best seven scores for this competition along with the Lady Captain and Lady President will represent the North West in Ballybofey Golf Club on Saturday 12th September.
Thursday was a much better day for the Links Open and we had 79 competitors in the very popular competition. First prize went to Liam Galbraith who schooled the rest of the field wining on 41 points. Neil Hirrell found himself back in the winners circle taking send place with 40 points.
Michael Bradly takes the gross with a tight round to match his tight haircut while his playing partner Joe McColgan rounded out the main prizes with 39 points. Visitor Thomas McCauley from Rockmount Golf Club in Carryduff won the visors prize while John Meehan finished strongly to win the back nine with 22 points.

What a day Saturday was for the Irish bowl and some great scoring to match the conditions. 98 members turned up on the day but only one man could take home the prize, with the winner being as popular as the competition, Gary McLaughlin fired in a marvelous 43 points winning by 2 to win the Irish Bowl 2020. Well done Gary. In second place on another fantastic score of 41 points we had Paul Coyle. Very steady hitting men.
The gross was won on a break of tie by Brian Griffin, while Niall Boyle Makes another appearance in the winners enclosure with 40 points to take home third spot. Michael McCann has been putting in some good scores recently and again found form today to take the back nine prize with 22 points.

Plenty of activity on the links again on Sunday with the Junior team in action winning all three matches at home to beat a strong Fintona team 3-2 on the day. Mickey Bradley and Stewart McGinlay both won their matches by 5 holes while Niall Campbell won the final match on the day in a dramatic last hole win. Well done to the junior cup team who progress to the next round.
We also had the Debonair Doubles sponsored by SuperValu, Buncrana, with 13 teams having qualified for the knockout stages. Along side the doubles we had a singles comp for those not taking part in the Debonair Doubles, with 60 members taking to the field.
And it was tight at the top again with another break of tie separating the top two of Edward Jogn Grant and Willie Meehan 1st and second respectively. Brian McCarroll finds his way back into the prizes with a neat round of 77 shots to take the gross, while Darragh McDermot put in a fine performance with 39 points to take third place. A more than steady 22 points saw Neil Harkin win the back nine prize.
