NWGC results week ending 06/09/2020

Changeable weather this week with a mixture of wind and showers making play on the course quite difficult. Conditions like these let experienced players show the rest of the field how its done and this was the case on both Tuesday and Thursday.


The youthful George McDaid won the Tuesday Open by 1 point with a score of 37 points, while Patrick Boyle took out the second spot with 36 points on a break of tie from the in form Colm McCarroll.

On Wednesday 2nd September the ladies of the North West took to the fairways to contest the Challenge Vase, in tough weather conditions with intermittent wind and rain.


However Geraldine Crossan rose to the occasion winning the competition playing off seventeen with a very solid nett 72 return!


Second was Rosalyn McCarron playing of thirty two with a 75nett, while third place honours went to fourteen handicapper Deirdre Britton after recording a nett 76. Congratulations to the winners.


Congratulations also are extended to the Maura O’Donnell team who have progressed to the next round of the competition after defeating Rosapenna last Sunday. They now meet Portsalon.

Just a note for your diaries. On Wednesday 16th September we have an Open “Play in Pink Day in aid of Breast Cancer Research. Tee Times can be booked through the BRS system on the club website. Visitors entry fee is €15.


And on Thursday in the Links Open, the wise Gerry Coyle took top spot with 35 points in very tough conditions on a three way break of tie, with Sean Mc Grellis in second place.


Stewart McGinlay, buoyant from his win in the Donegal Senior alliance won the gross with 77. Lawrence Hegarty finally gets special a mention in third place with 35 points for 3rd. Well done Lawrence.


The Visitor prize was won by Seamus Crawford with 32 points while former President Frank McHale had a strong back 9 of 18 points for the back 9 prize.

Last Links open of the season next Thursday with a return to the Thursday Society in the form of Captain Mickey's Captains Day the following Thursday.


A bit of a breezy day on Saturday for this years McConnell Cup but that did not stop that man Colm McCarroll blowing the field away to win with a magnificent 40 points two ahead of Justin MacLochlainn who gets on the podium again.


Stewart McGinlays fine run of form continues with another gross prize with 76 strokes while Sean McCracken delivered on the day (yes hes a postman) with 37 points to take home the 3rd place spot. And finally, steady Eddie himself Ray Gallagher won the back 9 prize with 21 points.

On sunday in much calmer conditions we hosted the Grants Butchers Open. 93 player took to the field but there could only be one winner and that was Darragh McDermott winning on a three way break of tie with 41 points.


Mr Secretary managed to squeeze in 41points for second while Terry Meenan came in third on the same score. Great shooting from all.


Michael Kelly wins the gross with a super round of 74, while the back 9 prize went to Neill Hirrel. We had 13 visitors on the day and the winner of the visitor prize was Gareth Doherty with a cool 40 point just missing out on the main prizes.
