Hanging On!
Greetings Golfers,
Here we are in the month of April and all the great plans we had and all the great work which had begun has come to a resounding halt! I had hoped that this feature could be used to keep members up to date with happenings around the club, team successes, big days , social activities etc. Yet here I find myself stuck for words, not wanting to labour on about Covid-19. I'm sure we have heard plenty about that; yet, at the same time, not wanting to sound frivolous and playing down the seriousness of the pandemic that we are having to endure.
Congratulations to Damien and his team for carrying on the great work around the links. When we do manage to get back to golf at least we know that the course will be in fine condition for us. Council members are monitoring the situation daily and Mr. Secretary Gerry and Mr Treasurer Eugene have their hands firmly on the wheel and Stiofán continues to facilitate our website and social media.
I don't know about the rest of you but all the gear I bought for the new season no longer fits me.... and as for my Captain's blazer!!!! At least I have managed to stop my handicap climbing back up to 11 as I haven't been able to get any shots back! I set up a wee practice mat in my garage but I had to stop as I lost 3 balls in the first day!
But, enough drivel for now, (more drivel will follow) thank you to those members who have paid their fees. It is not easy but it is essential if we are to survive, if not unscathed, at least we'll be in a position to move forward.
In all of this we must remember the most important factor.... stay safe and keep others safe. Although these are dark times, the darkest hour is just before the dawn, and the dawn will come. (Now stand for the Creed)
